As we have been warning NC residents regarding the funds and approval of FEMA disaster relief funds, today Reuters confirms our worst nightmare…Only 1 out of 200 residents of the hardest hit areas in the south will actually get disaster relief funds to help rebuild their homes. If the Biden Administration does not pass a new executive order, or if congress does not approve new legislation, thousands will never be able to live in the same location, nor rebuild their homes.
In addition, most homes in the appalachians that have been built over the past several years were no longer required to carry flood insurance. This was granted by mortgage companies and banks due to flood analysis of previous data that banks and mortgage companies conducted of 100, 500 and 1000 year floods. Many Americans who moved to NC and other southern states did so with the vibrant culture, the quiet paced living, and the attractiveness of a stable weather environment.
